Vocal Ensemble RUSTAVI (Recording of 2001)
Recordings of Georgian folk polyphonic songs makes a great musical impression. They are recorded in a tradition of active reproduction of Georgian folk music the origin of which begins from ancient time. It is a wonderful finding and can give to the performance much more than all the modem music can...
Yodel or "Krimanchuli" as it is called in Georgia is the best song which I have ever heard.".
I. Stravinsky. "AMERICA" magazine. Nl23 1967 USA
Traditionally, the popular song CHAKRULO is a drinking song. Together with other important musical pieces, it is now one of the samples of human culture on board a Voyager spacecraft launched by NASA in 1977 in the hope that they will be discovered by intelligent beings outside the solar system.
The "Rustavi" Company was founded in 1968. The Art of "Rustavi" has roots in the past of Georgia's folk music and folk performing art. It is the product of Georgia's musical culture, the source of its creative force.
These remarkable singers and dancers whose art is infused with great talent, warm feelings and goodwill, are just as modest reserved; Its dances in all their numerous varieties are as exhilarating as they are spectacular: The movements, with their exclusive preciseness and complexity, are accompanied by a smile, which reflects the Georgian's pride. It is present in every scene from festivity or wedding to the battle for one s native country. They are youths dancing on their toes, and young women who seem to be rather flying than dancing. There is much subtlety and delicacy in the whole performance.
The songs of "Rustavi" ensemble begin with a tender sounding lighter than the air that gradually gains momentum. These are unique songs; truly inimitable are the singer's voices and the style of their performance.
The costumes must be mentioned by all means. Nothing showy or clashing; highly original.
A few words about the concert hall. The hall was crowded; many had to stand.
L'Est Vaudois. 8.08.1979. Montreaux. Switzerland.
"Rustavi" from Georgia gave a concert to a full house in "Les Etoiles" theatre, which was attended by Prince Rainier III and Jean Louis Medecin, Major of Monaco City.
This original ensemble with its subtle and colorful program has come from an ancient country. In its virtuoso performance of legendary folk dances depicting festive and other occasions, the ensemble displays both vivacity and fantastic coloring, which bring out the beauty of Georgia's women. Truly breathtaking were the women s smooth gliding arm movements; the men's dances were executed with virtuoso technique, which is beyond description. "Parikaoba" (Sable Dance) is a model of superb mastery and harmony. The dancers showed the truly warrior-like temperament of Georgian knights, soldiers, and peasants. We were spellbound by the ancient songs of Svaneti and other mountainous parts of Georgia, carried away by their archaic style, polyphony, musicality and manly sound. A fine reception was given to melodies performed by the instrumental trio, which merited great success.
This was a brilliant performance where even the most insignificant of details were mastered to perfection. The singers and dancers showed a superb professionalism and great talent. Let us express our thanks to this wonderful ensemble, which has fascinated audiences by its titanic effort and mastery, poetical feeling, extraordinary gift and virtuosity.Monaco. 13.08.1979 Monaco
The Georgian ensemble "Rustavi" has completed its tour of Western Europe with triumphal concerts in the famous "Olympia" Concert Hall in Paris. This remarkable collective has acquainted scores of thousands of people in France, Belgium, Switzerland and Luxembourg with Georgia's original folk art.

They came, they saw and they conquered.
Sables crashed together sending showers of sparks through the air; knives were thrown with vibrating force and the audience at the North Bay Arts Center loved it all.

Stravinsky once said, "Georgian folk music has more new musical ideas than all the contemporary music ". For him Georgian music was one of the biggest delights in his life.
Los Angeles Times. 26.02.1990 USA
"Rustavi" Choir lined up on the Albert Hall stage sporting silver daggers over their tunics. But as the leading exponents of Georgian folk music, this 14-man group proved not only quite harmless but astonishingly versatile, capable of earthiness but also of delicacy.
